The Giving Nest - Supporting Tomorrow's Leaders Today

Duc Son Pagoda Orphanage, Hue, Vietnam
2 min read

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a hopeful future. At Global Prevention & Health Foundation, we believe that supporting orphans and vulnerable children isn't just about meeting immediate needs—it's about investing in tomorrow's leaders, dreamers, and changemakers.

The Giving Nest is our dedicated program providing ongoing support to Duc Son Pagoda Orphanage in Hue, Vietnam, focusing on educational resources, creative materials, and essential supplies that help children thrive.

Why Duc Son Pagoda Orphanage?

Our connection to Duc Son Pagoda began in March 2024 when our board members visited the orphanage and fell in love with the children, the monks, and the spirit of community we found there. We witnessed firsthand the dedication of the monks who care for these children, the resilience of the young ones themselves, and the practical needs that, if met, could significantly enhance their educational opportunities and quality of life.

The orphanage provides a safe, loving environment, but resources are limited. Books are well-loved but sparse. Educational materials are shared among many students. Toys and creative supplies are treasured but few. The Giving Nest was created to address these gaps and ensure that every child has access to the tools they need to learn, create, and imagine their best future.

Our Philosophy: Education as Prevention

While GPHF is primarily focused on cancer prevention and healing, we recognize that true prevention begins with holistic well-being—and that includes education, nutrition, emotional health, and stable living conditions. By supporting orphans through The Giving Nest, we're practicing prevention in its broadest sense: helping children develop healthy habits, access to knowledge, and the emotional resilience that supports lifelong wellness.

The Impact of Your Support

When you contribute to The Giving Nest, you're not just donating supplies—you're:

  • Expanding educational opportunities for children who might otherwise fall behind
  • Providing creative outlets that support emotional healing and expression
  • Investing in the next generation of healthy, educated, empowered individuals
  • Building a sustainable model of community support that can be replicated
  • Honoring the dedication of the monks and caregivers at Duc Son Pagoda

Partnership and Respect

The Giving Nest is built on partnership, not charity. We work closely with the monks at Duc Son Pagoda to understand the children's actual needs, cultural context, and long-term goals. We respect the wisdom and dedication of the caregivers who know these children best, and we design our support to complement and enhance—never replace—the loving community that already exists.

Looking Ahead: November 2025 and Beyond

Our first major Giving Nest delivery is scheduled for November 2025, coinciding with our Brighter Days in Tiny Hands hospital program. But this isn't a one-time event—it's the beginning of a long-term commitment. We envision regular check-ins, ongoing resource provision, and an evolving partnership that grows as the children's needs change.

We're also exploring ways to connect supporters directly with the orphanage through letter-writing programs, virtual connections, and opportunities for meaningful engagement beyond financial support.

The Name: Why "The Giving Nest"?

A nest represents safety, warmth, and the nurturing environment where young ones can grow strong enough to eventually fly on their own. That's exactly what we hope to provide through this program—a supportive foundation that helps children at Duc Son Pagoda Orphanage develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to build beautiful futures.

"The children at Duc Son Pagoda have already taught us so much about resilience, joy, and community. Through The Giving Nest, we have the privilege of giving back—not just with materials, but with the message that they are seen, valued, and supported as they grow into the incredible people they're meant to become." — Eva Z-Sipos, Board Member & Cancer Exercise Specialist
